Abstract

 Farmer Exchange Rates (NTP) of Sulawesi Barat in February 2010 amounted to 105.96, up 0.15 percent compared to January 2010 NTP which reached 105.80. In addition, NTP according to the subsector was recorded 93.86 for the Food Crop Subsector (NTP-P); 86.27 for the Horticultural Subsector (NTP-H); 129.80 for the People's Plantation Plant Subsector (NTP-R); 111.39 for the Livestock Subsector (NTP-T) and 106.86 for the Fisheries Subsector (NTN).  Results of monitoring of rural consumer prices show that rural inflation in West Sulawesi in February 2010 was 0.63 percent, which is generally due to an increase in price indexes in seven expenditure groups, which is quite significant, namely the processed food group by 0.99 percent.  Compared to other provinces, Sulawesi Barat is one of 28 provinces that experienced inflation in rural areas, the highest occurred in Jawa Barat at 1.06 percent and the lowest in Gorontalo at 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, four other provinces experienced rural deflation, the highest occurred in Bangka Belitung by 0.31 percent and the lowest in Sumatera Utara by 0.08 percent.  For the national scale, NTP for February 2010 was 101.09, while rural inflation was 0.60 Percent. The NTP and Sulawesi Barat Rural Inflation are still recorded higher than the national level. Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) obtained from the comparison of the price index received by farmers against the price index paid by farmers, is one indicator to see the level of ability / purchasing power of farmers. NTP also shows the exchange power (term of trade) of agricultural products with goods and services consumed as well as for production costs. The higher the FTT, the relatively stronger the level of farmers' ability / purchasing power.
