Abstract

 Farmer Exchange Rates (NTP) of Sulawesi Barat in October 2010 amounted to 104.75, up 0.05 percent compared to September 2010 NTP of 104.70. In addition, FTT according to the subsector was recorded for the Food Crop Subsector (FTT-P) 91.12; Horticulture Subsector (NTP-H) 85.75; Community Plantation Plant Subsector (NTP-R) 128.68; Livestock Subsector (NTP-T) 111.48 and Fisheries Subsector (NTN) 106.88.  Results of monitoring of rural consumer prices show rural deflation in West Sulawesi in October 2010 of 0.58 percent, which is generally due to a decrease in the price index in three expenditure groups, which is quite significant namely the foodstuffs group -1.18 percent, housing group -0.34 percent, and the education, recreation & sports group -0.30 percent. Meanwhile, the four other expenditure groups experienced increases, namely the processed food group at 0.04 percent, the clothing group at 0.24 percent, the health group at 0.46 percent, and the transportation and communication group at 0.01 percent.  Inflation in rural areas occurred in 11 provinces, the highest in Bengkulu 1.02 percent and the lowest in North Sumatra 0.08 percent. Meanwhile, deflation in rural areas occurred in 20 provinces including West Sulawesi, the highest in Southeast Sulawesi 0.97 percent and the lowest in West Sumatra 0.03 percent. Meanwhile, another province, Riau, experienced neither inflation nor rural deflation.  For the national scale, NTP in October 2010 was 102.61 and experienced rural inflation of 0.08 Percent. West Sulawesi's NTP is still recorded higher than the national level. Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) obtained from the comparison of the price index received by farmers against the price index paid by farmers, is one indicator to see the level of ability / purchasing power of farmers. NTP also shows the exchange power (term of trade) of agricultural products with goods and services consumed as well as for production costs. The higher the FTT, the relatively stronger the level of farmers' ability / purchasing power. The results of monitoring the prices of producers of various commodity goods and services in rural areas show that the West Sulawesi NTP in October 2010 was 104.75, an increase of 0.05 percent compared to the September 2010 NTP of 104.70. This is due to changes in the price index received by farmers fell 0.37 percent while the index paid by farmers fell 0.42 percent. Means, in general, the increase in prices of agricultural commodities from the previous month is faster than the increase in prices of goods for consumption and production. As a result,
