Abstract

; In September 2008, the NTP of Sulawesi Barat Province amounted to 104.50, an increase of 2.81 percent when compared to the NTP in August 2008 which reached 101.64. Whereas the NTP according to the subsector was recorded at 90.44 for the Food Crop Subsector (NTP-P), 91.72 for the Horticulture Subsector (NTP-H), 135.25 for the People's Plantation Plant Subsector (NTP-R), 103.47 for the Subsector Animal Husbandry (NTP-T) and 106.12 for the Fisheries Subsector (NTN). ; In addition to calculating the NTP, rural inflation is also calculated. Of the 32 provinces included in the NTP calculation, 2 provinces experienced deflation; Bangka Belitung Islands (-0.20%), and Bali (-0.31%). While 30 other provinces experienced inflation, the highest was Southeast Sulawesi at 2.01 percent and the lowest was Riau at 0.06 percent. West Sulawesi with inflation of 1.24 percent ranks 8th among the provinces experiencing inflation in rural areas. ; In September 2008, the inflation in rural areas in West Sulawesi Province was caused by an increase in the price index of several expenditure groups, as follows: foodstuffs (2.18%); prepared food, drinks and cigarettes (0.13%); housing (-0.32%); clothing (3.30%); health (1.09%); education, recreation and sports (-0.91%); and transportation and communication (0.69%).
