Mamuju – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Sulawesi Province reported an increase in the purchasing power of farmers in West Sulawesi in December 2024. This is indicated by the increase in the Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) which reached 158.28, higher than the previous month.
In her press release, the Head of BPS of West Sulawesi Province, Tina Wahyufitri, said that the increase in the NTP was due to an increase in the price index received by farmers (It) which was faster than the price index paid by farmers (Ib).
"This increase in the NTP indicates that farmers in West Sulawesi have better purchasing power," said Tina.
Furthermore, BPS noted that the NTP of the smallholder plantation crop sub-sector experienced a significant increase. This shows that plantation commodities such as oil palm and cocoa have made a major contribution to increasing farmers' income.
"The increase in the NTP of the smallholder plantation crop sub-sector is in line with the government's efforts to increase the productivity and added value of plantation commodities," added Tina.
