Mamuju – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Sulawesi Province recorded an increase in the consumer price index (CPI) of 1.49% annually in December 2024. This increase was mainly driven by the food, beverage, and tobacco groups.
In a press release, Thursday (2/1/2025), the Head of BPS West Sulawesi Province, Tina Wahyufitri, said that the highest inflation occurred in Mamuju City, while Majene Regency recorded the lowest inflation.
"The increase in inflation was generally caused by an increase in prices in several expenditure groups, such as food, beverages, and tobacco. However, there were several groups that experienced a decrease in prices, such as health and transportation," explained Tina.
Furthermore, Tina explained that the increase in prices in the food group contributed significantly to overall inflation. This is in line with data showing an increase in prices in several staple food commodities.
"We continue to monitor the development of prices of goods and services in West Sulawesi. The data we release is expected to be a reference for the government and the community in taking the necessary policies and steps," added Tina.
