Mamuju, 1 April 2024 – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Sulawesi Province (Sulbar) recorded year on year (y-on-y) inflation of 2.76 percent in March 2024. This figure shows an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 102.98 in March 2023 to 105.82 in March 2024.
Head of BPS West Sulawesi, Tina Wahyufitri, in a press release, Monday (1/4), said that the highest inflation occurred in Majene Regency at 2.84 percent with a CPI of 106.28, and the lowest in Mamuju at 2.64 percent with a CPI of 105.10 .
"Y-on-y inflation occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the expenditure group index," said Tina.
Expenditure groups that experienced an increase in the index included food, drinks and tobacco 5.60 percent, equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance: 0.06 percent, health 2.99 percent, transportation 0.52 percent, recreation, sports and culture 1.90 percent, Education: 0.67 percent, Provision of food and drinks/restaurants: 6.09 percent, Personal care and other services 1.10 percent.
Meanwhile, the expenditure groups that experienced a decline in the index were clothing and footwear 0.36 percent, information, communication and financial services 0.31 percent. Commodities that dominantly contributed to inflation y-on-y included rice, red chilies, bananas, rice with side dishes, machine-made kretek cigarettes (SKM), granulated sugar, fried chicken, purebred chicken eggs, processed vegetables, hand-rolled kretek cigarettes (SKT), while commodities that contribute/contribute to y-on-y deflation, including skipjack fish, flying fish, cooking oil, tuna, purebred chicken, trevally, veil/veil, cement, kale, sweet corn.
Tina added that West Sulawesi inflation in March 2024 will be the lowest in the Sulawesi region. The highest inflation in Sulawesi was recorded in Gorontalo at 3.70 percent, followed by Central Sulawesi 3.67 percent, and South Sulawesi 3.29 percent.
"The controlled inflation rate in West Sulawesi shows relatively good regional economic stability," said Tina.
Acting (Acting) Governor of West Sulawesi, Zudan Arif Fakhrulloh, appreciated the performance of BPS West Sulawesi in providing accurate and reliable statistical data.
"BPS data is very important for consideration in government policy making," said Zudan.
Zudan hopes that BPS will continue to improve the quality of its data and publications, so that it can provide wider benefits to society.
