Mamuju – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Sulawesi Province provided an important presentation regarding inflation and food insecurity at the High Level Meeting (HLM) of the West Sulawesi Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID), which took place at the Grand Maleo & Convention Hotel Mamuju, Thursday (5/12).
Head of BPS Sulbar, Tina Wahyufitri, revealed that the annual inflation (yoy) of West Sulawesi Province in November 2024 was recorded at 1.18 percent. This figure needs serious attention from TPID in order to keep inflation within the government's target range which is set at 2.5±1 percent.
"TPID can observe commodities that contribute to inflation repeatedly, because inflation in West Sulawesi is dominated by seasonal factors. Historically, commodities that have the potential to contribute to inflation in December, such as air transportation, chicken eggs, cayenne pepper, red chili, fresh fish, tomatoes and several other commodities," explained Tina.
On the same occasion, Tina also presented data from the 2023 National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) which showed that the prevalence of food insecurity in West Sulawesi was still above the national target.
"West Sulawesi is at 6.26 percent, above the target set by the 2020-2024 RPJMN, which is expected to reach the target of 5 percent in 2024. This could be the basis for planning to realize food sovereignty in West Sulawesi," added Tina.
The HLM TPID West Sulawesi was attended by various stakeholders, including local governments, banking parties, and other related agencies. This event aims to improve coordination in controlling inflation and meeting more stable food needs in West Sulawesi.
