Based on the results of the Consumer Price Survey of 66 cities in Indonesia in August 2013, it showed that all cities experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Sorong 6.47 percent with CPI 178.32 and the lowest in Pangkal Pinang 0.15 percent with CPI 162.47. With inflation of 1.26 percent and CPI 146.01, Mamuju ranks 28th highest of all cities experiencing inflation.
Mamuju experienced calendar year inflation (December 2012 - August 2013) of 5.62 percent and a year on year inflation rate (August 2012 - August 2013) of 5.67 percent.
In August 2013, Indonesia experienced inflation of 1.12 percent, with CPI of 146.25. The inflation rate of the Indonesian calendar year (December 2012 - August 2013) was 7.94 percent and the inflation rate was "year on year" "(August 2012 - August 2013) of 8.79 percent.
Inflation in Mamuju in August 2013 was mainly due to an increase in the consumer price index in all expenditure groups, namely: the foodstuffs group 2.16 percent, the education, recreation and sports group 1.95 percent, the transportation, communication and financial services group 1.36 percent , clothing group 1.18 percent, housing group, water, electricity, gas and fuel 0.84 percent, health group 0.53 percent and processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group 0.32 percent.
The increase in the price index in the foodstuffs group was caused by a significant increase in the price index for the fresh fish and seasonings sub-group by 0.27 percent and 0.12 percent, respectively.
The dominant commodities contributing to inflation were: onion 0.33 percent, inter-city transportation 0.18 percent, skipjack tuna 0.10 percent, electricity tariffs 0.08 percent, flying fish 0.06 percent, academic / college fees and milkfish each 0.05 percent, sand and grilled fish each 0.04 percent, gold jewelery, wet shrimp, rice and tuna each 0.03 percent, and purebred chicken, oranges, cars and potatoes 0.02 percent each. Meanwhile, the dominant commodities suppressing the inflation rate were: garlic -0.09 percent, cayenne pepper -0.07 percent, red chili -0.06 percent, vegetable tomatoes -0.02 percent, and dried anchovies, granulated sugar, wet anchovies and lime / lime each -0.01 percent.
