Based on the results of the Consumer Price Survey of 66 cities in Indonesia in February 2012, there were 40 cities experiencing inflation and 26 other cities experiencing deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Mataram 1.73 percent with CPI 145.51 and the lowest in Tangerang 0.03 percent with CPI 131.59, while the highest deflation occurred in Jambi 1.29 percent with CPI 133.21 and the lowest in Palu 0.04 percent with CPI 135.00. With inflation of 0.31 percent and CPI 134.76 Mamuju ranks 52nd among cities experiencing inflation.
Mamuju City inflation rate in 2012 (December 2011 - February 2012) was 0.68 percent, while the inflation rate "year on year" (February 2011 - February 2012) was 3.61 percent.
Meanwhile, Indonesia experienced a 0.05 percent inflation in February 2012, with a CPI of 130.96. Indonesia's inflation rate in 2012 (December 2011 - February 2012) was 0.81 percent, while the year on year inflation rate (February 2011 - February 2012) was 3.70 percent.
Inflation in Mamuju in February 2012 was mainly due to an increase in the consumer price index in six expenditure groups, namely: foodstuffs 0.45 percent, processed foods, drinks, cigarettes and tobacco 0.47 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel 0.20 percent, the clothing group 1.07 percent, the health group 0.11 percent, the education, recreation and sports group 0.34 percent, while the transportation, communication and financial services group experienced a 0.23 percent price drop.
The significant increase in the clothing group, mainly due to the share of inflation in the personal goods and other clothing sub-group by 0.07 percent. The increase was also significant in the foodstuffs group, mainly due to the large share of inflation in the grains, tubers sub-group and the results were 0.39 percent.
The dominant commodities contributing to inflation were: rice 0.39 percent, chicken eggs 0.07 percent, spinach 0.03 percent, water spinach, red chili and granulated sugar respectively 0.02 percent, filter clove cigarettes and gold jewelery respectively - 0.05 percent, beds 0.04 percent, and white cigarettes, washing machines, motorbikes and cars respectively 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, the dominant commodities contributing to inflation but having a negative value are: fruit tomatoes -0.10 percent, skipjack tuna -0.09 percent, vegetable tomatoes -0.08 percent, live chickens -0.03 percent, fly fish and beans the length of each is -0.02 percent and air transportation -0.08 percent.
