Based on the results of the Consumer Price Survey of 66 cities in Indonesia in April 2012, there were 52 cities experiencing inflation and 14 other cities experiencing deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Pangkal Pinang 1.76 percent with CPI 145.08 and the lowest in Bengkulu 0.03 percent with CPI 135.99, while the highest deflation occurred in Tarakan 0.51 percent with CPI 153.41 and the lowest in Banjarmasin 0, 01 percent with CPI 138.70. With inflation of 0.10 percent and CPI 134.70 Mamuju ranks 48th among cities experiencing inflation.
The Mamuju City inflation rate in 2012 (December 2011 - April 2012) was 0.64 percent, while the year on year inflation rate (April 2011 - April 2012) was 4.02 percent.
Meanwhile, Indonesia in April 2012 experienced inflation of 0.21 percent, with CPI 131.32. Indonesia's 2012 inflation rate (December 2011 - April 2012) was 1.09 percent, while the year on year inflation rate (April 2011 - April 2012) was 4.50 percent.
Inflation in Mamuju in April 2012 was mainly due to an increase in the consumer price index in three expenditure groups, namely: the foodstuffs group 0.29 percent, the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group 0.16 percent and the health group 0.13 percent while the processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group, clothing group, education, recreation and sports group experienced price decreases of -0.09 percent, -0.21 percent and almost close to 0.00 percent. Meanwhile, the transportation, communication and financial services group did not experience changes in the price index.
A significant increase in the foodstuffs group, mainly due to the inflation share in the spices sub-group 0.28 percent, although the vegetables and grains, tubers sub-group and the results were quite dominant contributed to negative inflation, respectively -mote -0.13 percent and -0.10 percent. Meanwhile, a significant increase in the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group, mainly due to inflation in the housing cost sub-group by 0.03 percent.
The dominant commodities contributing to inflation were: red chili 0.16 percent, cayenne pepper 0.12 percent, skipjack fish and cooking oil respectively 0.03 percent and onions and sweetened condensed milk each 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, the dominant commodities contributing to deflation were: rice -0.10 percent, kale -0.06 percent, chicken eggs -0.04 percent, long beans -0.03 percent and tempeh, lime / lime respectively -0.02 percent.
