Mamuju, 1 March 2024 - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Sulawesi Province (Sulbar) recorded a significant decrease in the movement of transportation modes in West Sulawesi in January 2024 compared to December 2023.
"The number of planes departing and arriving in January 2024 dropped drastically, 55.81 percent and 54.76 percent respectively," said Head of BPS West Sulawesi Tina Wahyufitri in a news release in Mamuju, Friday.
A similar decline also occurred in sea transportation modes, where the number of ships arriving and departing fell 22.35 percent.
"This decrease is likely caused by seasonal factors and school holidays that have ended," said Tina.
Apart from the number of modes of transportation, the number of passengers has also decreased. The most significant decline occurred in departing ship passengers, namely 74.11 percent.
"This decrease in the number of passengers is likely caused by passengers switching to other modes of transportation that are faster and more comfortable," said Tina.
