Mamuju – Head of the West Sulawesi Province Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Tina Wahyufitri, announced the results of an analysis of the development of the transportation sector in the province in December 2023. This announcement was made at a press conference in the West Sulawesi Province BPS Hall (01/02)..
The data released shows significant dynamics in the transportation sector in West Sulawesi. The number of aircraft departing in December 2023 reached 43 aircraft, a decrease of 17.31 percent compared to November 2023. Meanwhile, the number of ships arriving and departing in December 2023 increased by 14.86 percent.
Tina in her statement said, "The development of transportation in West Sulawesi reflects various changes that have occurred in community mobility and economic activity. Even though there has been a decline in a number of indicators, a significant increase in the number of ships arriving and departing shows positive growth."
Detailed data shows that the number of plane passengers departing in December 2023 reached 2,952 people, an increase of 14.42 percent compared to November 2023. Meanwhile, the number of ship passengers arriving in December 2023 reached 1,567 people, an increase of 3 .50 percent.
Growth in the aviation sector is also reflected in activity at Tampa Padang Airport in Mamuju Regency and Sumarorong Airport in Mamasa Regency. "Even though there has been a decrease in the number of planes departing and arriving, the growth in the number of passengers shows the attractiveness of the West Sulawesi destination," added Tina.
A comparison of data between December 2023 and December 2022 shows a significant decline in the aviation sector, but these figures need to be understood in the context of the global situation and the impact of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, the shipping sector shows positive dynamics with an increase in the number of ships arriving and departing. "Increasing port activity in West Sulawesi is a positive indicator for regional connectivity and trade," explained Tina.
BPS West Sulawesi also detailed the number of goods and baggage unloaded and loaded in December 2023. The number of goods unloaded reached 95,143 tons, showing an increase of 63.76 percent compared to November 2023. Meanwhile, the number of goods loaded reached 256,557.70 tons, experienced an increase of 52.14 percent.
