Abstract

AUGUST 2010: OPEN UNEMPLOYMENT OF SULAWESI BARAT BY 3.25 PERCENT  In August 2010 the number of the workforce reached 532,171 people, experiencing a significant increase compared to the same period the previous year (August 2009) of 21,027 people (4.11 percent). When compared to the situation in August 2007 and 2008, each increased by 61,674 people and 36,212 people. In other words, during the period of August 2007-2010 there was an average growth of the workforce population of 4.19 percent.  The number of employed people in August 2010 increased by 26,787 people compared to the same period the previous year (the situation in August 2009), in total during August 2007-2010 the average growth of the working population was 4.99 percent.  During the period of August 2007-2010 the number of unemployed people decreased by around 8,330 people or decreased by an average of 12.28 percent annually. During this period, the number of unemployed people in women fluctuated and tended to be constant, while the number of unemployed people in men had a declining trend, this was related to skills and knowledge, as well as employment opportunities for residents who were increasingly good.  The Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) has a decreasing pattern during the 2007-2010 period of 5.45 percent (TPT August 2007); 4.57 percent (TPT August 2008); 4.51 percent (TPT August 2009) and 3.25 percent (TPT August 2010).  The employment situation in August 2010, almost all jobs experienced an increase in the number of workers when compared to the situation in August 2009. Employment which experienced the highest increase in the number of workers in a row namely: agricultural employment rose by around 19,824 people followed by services employment Society and trade each increased by around 8,825 and 1,482 people.  Based on formal and informal classifications, in August 2010 around 19.89 percent of the population aged 15 years and over worked in formal activities and 80.11 percent of the workforce worked in informal activities. In terms of gender, around 50.74 percent of female workers work with family / unpaid status. Meanwhile, around 19.01 percent of the manpower work with the status of workers / employees. This indicates that, despite an increase in the female workforce, it is generally still in informal activities which means it is also very easy to move jobs to other sectors in the future.
