Abstract

 Based on the results of the Consumer Price Survey of 66 cities in Indonesia in April 2010, there were 21 cities that experienced deflation and 45 other cities experienced inflation. The highest deflation occurred in Tarakan 2.08 percent with CPI 132.38 and the lowest in Jambi 0.02 percent with CPI 119.32, while the highest inflation occurred in Manokwari 2.04 percent with CPI 134.03 and the lowest in Palembang 0.01 percent with CPI 118.76. Meanwhile, with deflation of 1.14 percent and CPI 120.99 Mamuju ranks 3rd among cities experiencing deflation.  The inflation rate of Mamuju City in 2010 (December 2009 - April 2010) was -0.31 percent, while the year-on-year inflation rate (April 2009 - April 2010) was 1.70 percent.  Meanwhile for the National scale, inflation in April 2010 in Indonesia was 0.15 percent, with CPI 118.37. Indonesia's inflation rate in 2010 (December 2009 - April 2010) was 1.15 percent, while the year on year inflation rate (April 2009 - April 2010) was 3.91 percent.  Deflation in Mamuju in April 2010 was generally caused by a decrease in the consumer price index in the following four categories of goods and services: foodstuffs -3.92 percent; processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group -0.47 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group -0.10 percent; and the health group -0.19. Meanwhile, the clothing, education, recreation and sports group and the transportation, communication and financial services group experienced increases in the consumer price index by 0.18 percent, 0.04 percent and 0.01 percent, respectively.  Significant decrease in the foodstuffs group was caused by the magnitude of the negative inflation share in the fresh fish sub-group and the grains, tubers and their products sub-group respectively -0.47 percent and -0.44 percent. While the decline that occurred in the processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group was caused by the magnitude of the negative inflation share in the non-alcoholic beverages sub-group by -0.11 percent.  Commodities contributing to inflation are: kale 0.18 percent, fresh milk fish 0.08 percent, garlic and clove cigarettes 0.03 percent each and young corn, lime / lime and fresh fish katamba each 0 , 02 percent. Meanwhile, commodities which contributed to inflation but were negative: rice -0.43 percent, skipjack fresh fish -0.29 percent, sugar -0.11 percent, spinach and fresh-crank fish each -0.10 percent , fresh fish, -0.08 percent, coconut oil and long beans respectively -0.06 percent, wet shrimp -0.05 percent, squid and purebred chicken eggs each -0.04 percent, cayenne pepper -0.03 percent and live chickens, oranges and brown sugar each -0.02 percent.
