Abstract

WEST SULAWESI ECONOMY IN 2008 GROWING 8.64 PERCENT;

West Sulawesi Economic Growth in 2008 as measured by the increase in Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) increased by 8.64 percent compared to 2007 All economic sectors experienced positive growth, with the highest growth in the construction sector which reached 45.28 percent and the lowest in the sector agriculture which only grew 4.49 percent. ;

The magnitude of West Sulawesi's GRDP in 2008 based on current prices reached Rp 7,769.83 billion while on the basis of constant 2000 prices it reached Rp 3,876,04 billion. ;

On a quarterly basis, West Sulawesi's GRDP in quarter IV / 2008 increased by 1.94 percent compared to quarter III / 2008 (q-to-q), and when compared to quarter IV / 2007 (y-on-y) it grew by 7, 08 percent. ;

The three economic sectors that experienced the highest growth in Q4 / 2008 (q-to-q) were the financial, leasing and business services sectors grew by 27.72 percent, following the building sector grew by 16.21 percent, and the mining and quarrying sector grew 7 , 46 percent. While the highest growth (y-on-y) occurred in the construction sector, which grew 62.48 percent, the mining and quarrying sector grew 36.02 percent and the transportation and communication sector grew 32.67 percent. ;

The three main sectors of PDRB drivers in West Sulawesi are the agriculture sector, the service sector, and the trade, hotel and restaurant sector having a role of 79.11 percent in 2008. the agricultural sector contributed 50.71 percent, the service sector 15, 89 percent, and the trade, hotel and restaurant sector 12.51 percent. ;

On the usage side, most of the GRDP is used to meet household consumption by 70.48 percent, government consumption 21.88 percent, gross fixed capital formation or physical investment 16.24 percent, imports 21.54 percent and exports 15.07 percent ( trade balance deficit 6.47 percent). ;

All components of GRDP usage experienced growth in 2008 except changes in stock, with the highest growth in gross fixed capital formation or physical investment of 36.97 percent, followed by exports of 20.74 percent, government consumption of 16.21 percent, imports of 14.60 percent and household consumption by 11.08 percent. ;

Per capita GRDP at current prices in 2008 reached Rp. 7.53 million, higher than in 2007 which amounted to Rp. 6.19 million.
