Abstract

Sulawesi Barat's economic growth as measured by the increase in Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at constant 2000 prices from quarter I / 2008 to quarter II / 2008 grew by minus 0.06 percent (q-to-q), whereas when compared to the quarter the same in 2007 experienced a growth of 6.90 percent (y-on-y). ; The amount of GRDP at current prices in the second quarter of 2008 reached 1,914.49 billion rupiahs, while the GDP at constant 2000 prices in the same quarter reached 946.87 billion rupiahs. ; The three sectors that experienced the highest growth (q-to-q) in the second quarter of 2008 were the electricity, gas and water sector to reach 4.83 percent, the mining and quarrying sector to grow 4.22 percent, and the construction sector to 4.01 percent. While the highest growth (y-on-y) occurred in the electricity, gas and clean water sector grew 23.04 percent, the mining and quarrying sector grew 20.39 percent, and the financial, rental and business services sector grew 17.97 percent. ; The worst economic performance (q-to-q), occurred in the manufacturing sector which experienced a contraction of 1.71 percent as well compared to the same quarter in the previous year (y-on-y) grew minus 0.94 percent. ; GRDP according to usage, household consumption expenditure at constant 2000 prices in the second quarter of 2008 (q-to-q) grew by 1.50 percent. Furthermore, government consumption expenditure grew 5.24 percent, gross fixed capital formation 5.05 percent, exports 3.00 percent, and imports 1.44 percent. ; In real terms, in the second quarter of 2008 there was an increase (y-on-y) in all components of GRDP according to usage, namely: household consumption expenditure increased by 6.08 percent, government consumption expenditure by 6.70 percent, gross fixed capital formation by 20 , 99 percent, exports 16.51 percent, and imports 21.48 percent.
