Abstract

; In August 2008, Mamuju City experienced inflation of 3.21 percent. Of the 66 cities studied there were 60 cities that experienced inflation, the highest in Mamuju of 3.21 percent with CPI 117.56 and the lowest in Pematang Siantar 0.02 percent with CPI 111.49. While the other 6 cities experienced deflation, the highest in Kupang was 0.97 percent with CPI 110.77 and the lowest in Kendari was 0.06 percent with CPI 114.79. ; The inflation rate in 2008 was 10.07 percent, while the inflation rate "year on year" (August 2008 to August 2007) was 17.82 percent. ; Inflation occurring in August was mainly due to an increase in prices of goods and services indicated by an increase in the index in the six categories of goods and services as follows: the foodstuffs group at 9.16 percent; the processed food, beverages, cigarettes & tobacco group by 2.17 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas & fuel group of 1.06 percent; clothing group by 0,29 percent; health group of 1.76 percent; and the transportation, communication and financial services group by 1.04 percent. While one other group, namely the education, recreation and sports group, experienced an index decline of 0.19 percent. ; Commodities contributing significantly to inflation include: skipjack (0.85%); cob (0.44%), milkfish (0.31%); water spinach and bananas (0.14% each); snacks / snacks and fried chicken (0.13% each); cellular phones (0.11%); air transportation (0.08%); young corn (0.07%); boards and tempeh (0.06%); cayenne pepper, coconut, household fuel, spinach, house rent and long beans (0.05% each). The development of various commodity prices in August 2008 generally showed an increase.
