Abstract

West Sulawesi's economic growth as measured by the increase in Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) based on constant 2000 prices from Quarter II to Quarter III 2007 fell by 0.02 percent (q-to-q), but when compared to the same quarter of 2006 6.80 percent (y-on-y) growth.

The amount of GRDP at current prices in Quarter III of 2007 reached 1,521.19 billion rupiahs, while the GRDP at constant 2000 prices in the same quarter was 889.93 billion rupiahs.

The three sectors that experienced the highest growth (q-to-q) in the third Quarter of 2007 were the Electricity, Gas and Water sectors growing reaching 7.44 percent, the financial sector, leasing & service companies 'grew 5.32 percent, the' mining & excavations' grew 4.92 percent, and services grew 3.73 percent. While the highest growth (y-on-y) occurred in the 'mining and quarrying' sector grew by 20.81 percent, the 'electricity, gas & clean water' sector grew by 20.15 percent, and the 'finance, leasing & business services sector' grew 18.54 percent.

The worst economic performance (q-to-q), occurred in the agricultural sector which contracted -3.19 percent. However, when compared to the same quarter in the previous year (y-on-y), the sector still appears to have grown by 2.89 percent.

GRDP according to usage, household consumption expenditure at constant 2000 prices in Quarter III of 2007 (q-to-q) grew by 0.86 percent. In the same quarter government consumption expenditure grew 5.10 percent, gross fixed capital formation was 3.04 percent, exports were minus 1.57 percent, and imports were 9.17 percent.

In real terms, in the third Quarter of 2007 there was an increase (y-on-y) in all components of GRDP according to usage, namely: household consumption expenditure increased by 6.11 percent, government consumption expenditure by 21.68 percent, gross fixed capital formation by 11 , 03 percent, exports by 21.89 percent, and imports by 36.52 percent.
