Abstract

DESCRIPTION OF THE SULAWESI BARAT ECONOMIC QUARTER III OF 2008; Sulawesi Barat economic growth as measured by the increase in Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) based on constant 2000 prices from Quarter II to Quarter III 2008 grew by 1.88 percent (q-to-q), and when compared with the same quarter of 2007 experienced a growth of 9.34 percent (y-on-y). ; The amount of GRDP at current prices in Quarter III of 2008 reached 2,029.48 billion rupiahs, while the GRDP at constant 2000 prices in the same quarter was 964.69 billion rupiahs. ; The three sectors that experienced the highest growth (q-to-q) in the Third Quarter of 2008 were the Mining and quarrying sector which reached 26.47 percent, the Building sector grew 18.66 percent, the Manufacturing industry sector grew 13.39 percent, and Finance, company rentals and services grew 11.73 percent. While the highest growth (y-on-y) occurred in the 'mining and quarrying' sector grew 45.12 percent, the 'building sector grew 34.57 percent, and the' finance, rental & service sector 'sector grew 25.58 percent. ; The worst economic performance (q-to-q), occurred in the agricultural sector which contracted -6.24 percent. However, when compared to the same quarter in the previous year (y-on-y), the sector still appears to have grown by 1.08 percent. ; GRDP according to usage, household consumption expenditure at constant 2000 prices in Quarter III of 2008 (q-to-q) grew by 4.16 percent. In the same quarter government consumption expenditure grew 3.55 percent, gross fixed capital formation 9.51 percent, exports 3.14 percent and imports 5.42 percent. ; In real terms, in the third Quarter of 2008 there was an increase (y-on-y) in all components of GRDP according to usage, namely: household consumption expenditure rose by 13.68 percent, government consumption expenditure by 9.20 percent, gross fixed capital formation by 21 , 04 percent, exports by 21.39 percent, and imports by 26.23 percent.
