West Sulawesi NTP Increases to 139.51 in May 2025, Farmers' Purchasing Power Strengthens

MAMUJU – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Sulawesi Province recorded an increase in the Farmer's Exchange Rate (NTP) of 0.96 percent in May 2025. West Sulawesi's NTP was recorded at 139.51, an increase from April 2025's position of 138.19.

"The continuing increase in NTP reflects the strengthening of farmers' purchasing power in West Sulawesi, especially because the price of agricultural commodities has increased higher than consumption expenditure and production costs," said Acting Head of BPS of West Sulawesi Province, M. La'bi, in a press release, Monday (02/06/2025).

This increase in NTP was triggered by an increase in the Price Index Received by Farmers (It) by 0.65 percent, while the Price Index Paid by Farmers (Ib) actually decreased by 0.31 percent. This means that farmers' income has increased while the cost of living and production has decreased slightly.

In detail, the NTP by subsector in May 2025 is as follows: Food Crops (NTP-P) 98.71; Horticulture (NTP-H) 105.95; Smallholder Plantation Crops (NTP-R) 180.53; Livestock (NTP-T) 90.09; Fisheries (NTN-P) 101.09.

The Smallholder Plantation Crops subsector is still the mainstay with the highest value, indicating that the exchange power of plantation farmers is much stronger than other subsectors.

"The increase in NTP is a positive indicator for the economic resilience of our farmer and fisherman households, as well as being an important evaluation material for the agricultural sector as a whole," added M. La'bi.

BPS West Sulawesi will continue to monitor the dynamics of NTP every month as one of the indicators of the welfare of farmer and fisherman households in the region.
