The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Sulawesi Province recorded a significant decline in the number of air and sea transportation passengers in November 2024.
This was revealed in the latest data release submitted by the Head of BPS Sulbar, Tina Wahyufitri, on Thursday (2/1/2025). This decline occurred in both the number of departing and arriving passengers.
In its press release, BPS Sulbar released a number of strategic indicators, one of which is the development of transportation in West Sulawesi Province.
The data shows that the number of departing and arriving airplane passengers in November decreased by 1.33 percent and 9.08 percent compared to October.
A more drastic decline occurred in sea transportation. The number of departing and arriving ship passengers in November decreased by 56.42 percent and 29.81 percent respectively compared to the previous month.
"The decline in the number of air and sea transportation passengers in November 2024 is quite significant. Several factors may influence this condition, such as extreme weather, decreased purchasing power, or changes in people's consumption patterns," explained Tina.
