Mamuju, December 16, 2024 - Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Sulawesi, Tina Wahyufitri, together with Acting Governor of West Sulawesi Bahtiar Baharuddin and Forkopimda conducted direct monitoring of basic necessities prices at the Old Market in Mamuju, Monday (16/12/2024). This activity was carried out in order to anticipate price spikes ahead of Christmas and New Year (Nataru).
Based on BPS West Sulawesi data, mackerel is the dominant commodity contributing to y-on-y inflation of 0.31 percent. This is influenced by bad weather factors that disrupt fishing activities. In addition, tomatoes are also one of the commodities that dominantly contribute to y-0-y inflation, namely 0.10 percent.
"Periodic price monitoring is very important to ensure the availability and stability of prices of people's basic necessities," said Tina.
"The data we collect will be the basis for local governments in taking appropriate policies, such as market operations or distribution control," he continued.
BPS West Sulawesi recommends that local governments strengthen cooperation with producers and distributors to maintain supply stability. In addition, it is necessary to diversify food sources to reduce dependence on certain commodities.
Acting Governor of West Sulawesi, Bahtiar Baharuddin, appreciated BPS's efforts in monitoring price developments.
"Data from BPS really helps us in taking anticipatory steps to maintain regional economic stability," he said.
