Mamuju, 3 June 2024 – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Sulawesi Province (Sulbar) recorded year on year (y-on-y) inflation in West Sulawesi in May 2024 at 1.25 percent. This figure places West Sulawesi as the province with the lowest inflation among the 38 provinces in Indonesia.

"This achievement shows that the inflation control performance in West Sulawesi is consistent and controlled," said Head of BPS West Sulawesi, Tina Wahyufitri, in a press release held today.

Furthermore, Tina explained that the highest inflation in West Sulawesi occurred in Mamuju at 2.21 percent, while the lowest inflation occurred in Majene Regency at 0.63 percent.

"There are several factors that will drive inflation in May 2024, including price increases in the food, beverage and tobacco groups; health group; transportation group; and recreation, sports and cultural groups," said Tina.

On the other hand, several expenditure groups experienced a decline in the index, such as the clothing and footwear group; housing, air, electricity and household fuel groups; group of equipment, tools and routine household maintenance; and the information, communications, and financial services group.

"Despite experiencing inflation, BPS is optimistic that inflation in West Sulawesi will remain under control within reasonable limits," concluded Tina.

The Acting Governor of West Sulawesi, Bahtiar Baharuddin, who was also present at this press release, appreciated the performance of BPS and the West Sulawesi Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) in maintaining price stability in his region.

"We will continue to synergize with various related parties to maintain price stability and people's purchasing power," said Bahtiar.
