Mamuju, 2 May 2024 – West Sulawesi Province's Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded a significant spike in the region's export value in March 2024. Compared to February 2024, West Sulawesi's exports rose 60.52 percent to reach US$ 49.74 million.
"This increase in exports shows the positive economic growth of West Sulawesi," said Head of BPS West Sulawesi Province, Tina Wahyufitri.
Animal/vegetable fats & oils are the main export commodities with a contribution of 96.71 percent of total exports. China is the main destination country for West Sulawesi's exports with a contribution of 92.54 percent.
Furthermore, Tina explained that there would be no import activities in West Sulawesi in March 2024. This is different from February 2024 where imports were recorded at US$ 0.38 million and March 2023 at US$ 1.21 million.
"Cumulatively, the import value of West Sulawesi fell 79.10 percent from US$ 1.80 million (January-March 2023) to US$ 0.38 million (January-March 2024)," explained Tina
This decline in imports shows the government's efforts to control the trade balance and encourage the use of domestic products.
