Abstract

MANPOWER STATE IN WEST SULAWESI (RESULT OF SAKERNAS AUGUST 2009)  In August 2009 the number of the workforce reached 511,144 people, experiencing a significant increase compared to the same period the previous year (August 2008) of 15,185 people (3.06 percent). When compared to the situation in August 2006 and 2007, each increased by 79,817 people and 40,647 people. In other words, during the period of August 2006-2009 there was an average growth of the workforce population of 5.82 percent.  The number of working people in August 2009 increased by 14,771 people (3.12 percent) compared to the same period the previous year (the situation in August 2008), in total during August 2006-2009 the average growth of the working population was 6.55 percent .  During the period of August 2006-2009 the number of unemployed people decreased by around 4,760 people or decreased by an average of 6.03 percent annually. During this period, the number of unemployed residents in men fluctuated and tended to be constant, while the number of unemployed residents in women had a declining trend, this was related to skills and knowledge, as well as employment opportunities for women who were increasingly good.  The Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in West Sulawesi Province in August 2009 reached 4.51 percent, a decrease compared to the situation in August 2008 which amounted to 4.57 percent, as well as the situation in August 2007 and 2006 which amounted to 5.45 percent each and 6.45 percent.  The employment situation in August 2009, almost all jobs experienced an increase in the number of workers when compared to the situation in August 2008. Employment experienced the highest increase in the number of workers in a row namely: social service employment which rose by around 11,179 people followed by employment Industry and construction each increased by around 5,615 people and 3,255 people.  In terms of gender, women's participation in employment has increased significantly. During the period of August 2008-2009, the number of female workers increased by 12,091 people, while the male population employed also experienced a slight increase of 2,680 people. The largest increase in female workers occurred in social services employment by 5,667 people, industry by 4,252 people, trafficking by 2,449 people, and agriculture as many as 1,660 people.
