Abstract

MANPOWER STATE IN SULAWESI BARAT (RESULTS OF SAKERNAS FEBRUARY 2009)  The total workforce in February 2009 reached 515,827 people, an increase of about 37,991 people compared to the total workforce in February 2008 of 477,836 people.  The number of people employed in February 2009 was 490,434 people, an increase of about 39,747 people compared to the situation in February 2008 of 450,687 people.  Based on Sakernas results in February 2009, the Labor Force Participation Rate (TPAK) in West Sulawesi was 69.21% or increased by around 3.92% when compared to the conditions in February 2008 of 65.29%.  On the other hand the Open Unemployment Rate in West Sulawesi in February 2009 reached around 4.92%, this figure fell by around 0.76% when compared to conditions in February 2008 of 5.68%.  In West Sulawesi, the status of those employed was still dominated by informal workers, namely 78.17% in February 2009, while the remaining 21.83% were formal workers.  In terms of gender, women's participation in employment has increased significantly. During February 2008-February 2009, the number of female workers increased by 40,552, while men actually experienced a decline of 805 people. The largest increase in female workers occurred in the Services sector, namely 14,512 people and the trade sector by 10,872 people.
