; Based on the results of the Consumer Price Survey of 66 cities in Indonesia in April 2009, there were 16 cities experiencing inflation and 50 other cities experiencing deflation. Mamuju experienced inflation of 0.12 percent with CPI 118.97 and ranked 13th out of cities experiencing inflation. The highest inflation in Palopo was 0.99 percent with CPI 124.62 and the lowest in Palangkaraya 0.06 percent with CPI 115.50. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Manado 1.32 percent with CPI 115.03 and the lowest in Surakarta 0.02 percent with CPI 109.27. ; The Mamuju City inflation rate in 2009 (April 2009 to December 2008) was -0.23 percent, while the "year on year" inflation rate (April 2009 to April 2008) was 9.33 percent. ; Inflation in Mamuju in April 2009 was generally caused by an increase in the consumer price index of various commodities in the following four categories of goods and services: processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco 0.48 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group 0.20 percent; education, recreation and sports group 0.68 percent; and the transportation, communication and financial services group of 0.22 percent. While the price index in the foodstuffs and clothing group respectively dropped 0.14 percent and 0.69 percent, while the health group did not experience changes in the price index. ; Commodities that contributed significantly to inflation were: rice 0.12 percent, coconut oil and fresh fish, each 0.05 percent, fruit tomatoes, noodles and oranges 0.04 percent each, bananas, fresh fish, cobs and cigarettes clove filter each 0.03 percent, as well as eggs, car, beef, green beans, granulated sugar and vegetable tomatoes respectively 0.02 percent.
