Abstract

; Based on the results of the Consumer Price Survey of 66 cities in Indonesia in January 2009, there were 34 cities that experienced inflation and 32 other cities experienced deflation. Mamuju experienced deflation of 0.85 percent with CPI 118.24 and ranked 4th out of 32 cities experiencing deflation. The highest deflation in Manado was 1.35 percent with CPI 113.66 and the lowest in Madiun 0.01 percent with CPI 117.09. Meanwhile, the highest inflation occurred in Manokwari 3.84 percent with CPI 127.41 and the lowest in Batam 0.01 percent with CPI 110.36. ; In January 2009, the year on year (January 2009 to January 2008) inflation rate was 11.21 percent. ; Deflation in Mamuju in January 2009 was generally caused by a decrease in the consumer price index of various commodities in the following four categories of goods and services: foodstuffs -3.61 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group -0.48 percent; education, recreation and sports group -0.13 percent; and the transportation, communication and financial services group -1.48 percent. While the price index in the processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group; clothing and health groups respectively rose 2.97 percent, 0.70 percent and 0.05 percent. ; Commodities that contributed significantly to deflation were: skipjack 0.41 percent, gasoline 0.29 percent, cob 0.27 percent, coconut oil 0.19 percent, cayenne pepper 0.12 percent, red chillies 0.11 percent, long beans 0.08 percent and 0.07 percent chicken. Meanwhile, commodities contributing to inflation were: milkfish 0.21 percent, filtered clove cigarettes 0.15 percent, wet cakes 0.10 percent, katamba 0.08 percent, cell phones and spinach each 0.07 percent. The results of the monitoring of retail prices of various commodity goods and services in January 2009 in the City of Mamuju showed a general decline in prices.
