Abstract

MANPOWER STATE IN WEST SULAWESI (RESULTS OF SAKERNAS AUGUST 2008);

The number of labor force in West Sulawesi Province in August 2008 reached 495,959 people, an increase of 18,123 people compared to the total workforce in February 2008 of 477,836 people or an increase of 25,462 people compared to August 2007 of 470,497 people. ;

The number of people working in West Sulawesi Province in August 2008 reached 473,309 people, an increase of 22,622 people compared to the situation in February 2008 of 450,687 people, or an increase of 28,446 people compared to the situation in August 2007 of 444,863 people. ;

The number of unemployed people in August 2008 decreased by 4,499 people compared to the situation in February 2008, from 27,149 people in February 2008 to 22,650 people in August 2008, and decreased by 2,984 people when compared to the August 2007 situation of 25,634 people. ;

The level of open unemployment in the Province of West Sulawesi in August 2008 reached 4.57 percent, a decrease compared to the situation in February 2008 which amounted to 5.68 percent, as well as the situation in August 2007 which amounted to 5.45 percent. ;

The labor situation in August 2008, almost all sectors experienced an increase in the number of workers when compared to the situation in August 2007. The sectors that experienced the highest increase in the number of workers in a row were: the Agriculture sector rose by 10,824 people and the Industrial sector rose by 7,080 people. ;

In terms of gender, women's participation in employment has increased significantly. During February 2008-August 2008, the number of female workers increased by 25,887 people, while men actually experienced a decrease of 3,265 people. The largest increase in female workers occurred in the Agriculture sector, namely 11,537 people and the trade sector by 5,694 people.
