Mamuju, 1 July 2024 – The West Sulawesi Province Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded year-on-year (y-on-y) inflation of 2.32 percent in June 2024, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) reaching 106.31. The highest inflation occurred in Mamuju (2.45 percent) and the lowest in Majene (2.24 percent).
Head of West Sulawesi Province BPS, Tina Wahyufitri, explained that this inflation was mainly caused by price increases in the food, beverage and tobacco groups; transportation; as well as providing food and drinks/restaurants.
"The food, beverage and tobacco group experienced the highest inflation, reaching 4.21 percent. "The increase in prices of staple foods such as rice, meat and vegetables is the main driver," said Tina in an official release today.
Meanwhile, the transportation group also recorded inflation of 0.87 percent, influenced by an increase in air transportation rates and an increase in fuel oil (BBM) prices.
"We will continue to monitor price developments and work together with the regional government and related parties to maintain price stability in West Sulawesi," added Tina.
Acting Governor of West Sulawesi, Bahtiar Baharuddin, who was also present at the press release, expressed his appreciation for BPS's performance in providing accurate and up-to-date inflation data.
"This data is very important as a basis for policy making in controlling inflation in West Sulawesi," said Bahtiar.
He also emphasized the regional government's commitment to maintaining price stability and people's purchasing power.
Apart from annual inflation, BPS also recorded monthly inflation (m-to-m) of 0.81 percent and calendar year inflation (y-to-d) of 1.05 percent in June 2024.
