Mamuju, March 1 2024 – West Sulawesi Province's Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released the development of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in February 2024. As a result, West Sulawesi experienced year on year (y-on-y) inflation of 2.22 percent .
"Y-on-y inflation occurred due to price increases in several expenditure groups, such as food, beverages and tobacco; health; transportation; and providing food and drinks/restaurants," said Tina Wahyufitri, Head of BPS West Sulawesi, in a news release received in Mamuju, Wednesday (1/3).
Furthermore, Tina explained that the dominant commodities contributing to y-on-y inflation in West Sulawesi include rice, red chilies, tomatoes, bananas, rice with side dishes, machine-made kretek cigarettes (SKM), granulated sugar, fried chicken, processed vegetables. , and Hand-rolled Kretek Cigarettes (SKT).
Meanwhile, month to month (m-to-m) inflation in West Sulawesi in February 2024 was recorded at 0.08 percent, and year to date (y-to-d) inflation was 0.15 percent.
Acting (Acting) Governor of West Sulawesi, Prof. Zudan Arif Fakrulloh, appreciated the achievement of controlling inflation in West Sulawesi which was below the national average.
"Thank God, inflation in West Sulawesi is well controlled, even below the national average. "This shows good cooperation from all parties, including the government, Bank Indonesia and the community," said Zudan.
Zudan hopes that synergy and collaboration between stakeholders can continue to be improved to maintain price stability and people's purchasing power in West Sulawesi.
