Abstract

ECONOMIC GROWTH OF WEST SULAWESI QUARTER III 2009  West Sulawesi economic growth measured by the increase in Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at constant prices from quarter II / 2009 to quarter III / 2009 grew by 0.97 percent (q-to-q), whereas when compared with the same quarter of 2008 experienced growth of 10.34 percent (y-on-y).  The magnitude of West Sulawesi's GRDP in the third quarter of 2009 based on current prices reached Rp 2,325.51 billion while on the basis of constant 2000 prices it reached Rp 1,068.85 billion.  The three economic sectors that experienced the highest growth in Q3 / 2009 (q-to-q) were the mining and quarrying sector which grew by 28.03 percent, followed by the Construction sector which grew by 12.97 percent and the transportation and communication sector which grew by 12.47 percent. While the highest growth (y-on-y) occurred in the mining and quarrying sector which grew by 49.30 percent followed by the transportation and communication sector which grew 48.03 percent, and the industrial sector which grew 26.89 percent.  The agriculture sector in the third quarter of 2009 was an economic sector that had an underperforming performance, which was characterized by a decline in economic growth of minus 7.11 percent (qtq) and minus 2.60 percent (y-on-y) .  All components of GRDP usage experienced positive growth in quarter III / 2009 (q-to-q). The three components that experienced the highest growth were PMTB which increased by 12.99 percent. Furthermore, imports and exports grew by 9.45 percent and 9.26 percent respectively.  In real terms, in the third quarter of 2009 (y-on-y) there was an increase in all components of GRDP according to usage. This growth mainly occurred in exports which grew by 30.74 percent. Furthermore, government consumption by 21.29 percent and PMTB also experienced high growth of 15.41 percent, imports by 11.63 percent, and household consumption grew by around 7.62 percent.  From the usage side, 70.13 percent of income is used for household consumption. Components of government consumption and imports each received a share of 25.26 percent and 23.86 percent. Meanwhile, the portion of exports and PMTB was 18.95 percent and 17.13 percent  At the National level, economic growth in the third quarter of 2009 was 3.9 percent (q-to-q) and 4.2 percent (y-on -y). The GDP figure in the third quarter of 2009 at current prices reached 1,452.5 trillion rupiahs while the GDP figure at constant prices was 561.3 trillion rupiahs.
