WEST SULAWESI ECONOMIC CONDITION IN 2006

Abstract

In 2006, West Sulawesi's economic growth measured by the increase in Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) on the basis of constant prices reached 6.99 percent. The three sectors that experienced the highest growth were the Services sector with a figure of 14.95 percent, the Building sector 11.14 percent, and the Electricity, Gas and Clean Water sector 10.84 percent.

The high growth in the Services sector was due to the General Government sub-sector, namely the addition of civil servants (PNS), both those who moved from outside West Sulawesi to fill formation especially in the provincial government environment and from new revenues.

The main supporting sector which is the source of economic growth is the Agriculture sector. Although the Agriculture sector experienced the lowest growth of 4.34 percent, it contributed the largest in economic growth to 2.40 percent. The next big source of growth was the Services sector with 1.97 percent and the Trade, Hotels and Restaurants sector 1.17 percent.

The amount of GRDP based on current prices in 2006 reached Rp. 5,124.8 billion while the GRDP at constant 2000 prices in the same year reached Rp 3,338.75 billion. The three economic sectors that contributed the most to the economy of West Sulawesi in 2006 were the Agriculture sector with a contribution of 53.59 percent, the Services sector (14.74
