Mamuju - At a press conference held in the West Sulawesi Province BPS Hall, the Head of West Sulawesi BPS, Tina Wahyufitri, gave a report on the development of the West Sulawesi Province Consumer Price Index (CPI) for January 2024. This event was also attended by the Regional Secretary of West Sulawesi Province. (01/02)
According to the report submitted by Tina, in January 2024, the Year on Year (y-on-y) inflation rate for West Sulawesi Province reached 2.25 percent, with the highest inflation occurring in Majene Regency at 3.14 percent. This inflation was influenced by price increases in several expenditure groups, including the food, beverage and tobacco group by 3.33 percent, and the recreation, sports and culture group by 8.38 percent.
"The inflation that occurred in January 2024 was caused by price increases in certain groups, such as food, drinks and recreational activities. These factors also had an impact on the CPI in several areas in West Sulawesi," said Tina.
Furthermore, the report details that commodities such as rice, tomatoes, red chilies and fried chicken contribute significantly to inflation, while several commodities such as flying fish, skipjack tuna and mackerel contribute to deflation.
In her official quote, Tina emphasized, "We continue to monitor and analyze developments in the CPI in West Sulawesi. Even though there is an increase in inflation, several commodities are experiencing deflation, reflecting the complex dynamics in this regional economy."
The report also noted that expenditure groups such as personal care and other services experienced inflation of 1.01 percent, while the clothing and footwear group experienced deflation of 0.38 percent. Certain subgroups, such as other services, recorded quite high inflation of 40.67 percent.
The Regional Secretary of West Sulawesi Province, Muhammad Idris, who was also present at the press conference, stated, "This report is an important reference for the regional government to take strategic steps in managing inflation and ensuring economic stability in West Sulawesi."
Monitoring of the CPI also covers all Consumer Price Index (CPI) cities in West Sulawesi Province, where it was recorded that the highest inflation occurred in Majene Regency with a CPI of 106.60, while Mamuju recorded the lowest inflation at 0.86 percent.
Tina closed the press conference by emphasizing BPS West Sulawesi's commitment to continuing to provide accurate and up-to-date information regarding economic developments in West Sulawesi. "We will continue to monitor and provide data that can become the basis for policy for the government and people of West Sulawesi," said Tina
